Bodhi Tree Story Time

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we will upload a new story with a new lesson plan idea to carry on developing your child’s learning while at home.

Lesson Plan 1
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Montessori Pairing activities

1 year old
In a basket place all the animals that your child meets along the story.
If you have the book read the story again with your child and ask them to find the correct toy to match the pictures.
Focus the conversation on vocabulary, asking your child to say or repeat the name of the animals or it’s sound.
If you don’t have this specific book, use the video posted on Bodhi Tree YouTube channel to show your child each animal or print pictures to leave in the basket for your child to match.

2 and 3 years old
Ask your child to go on a treasure hunt and look for each and every animal in the story. You could make a quick toilet roll binoculars or ask them to use their fingers to make binoculars.
Place all animals found in a basket and same as younger age see if your child can match the animals to the pictures naming and sounding the animals.

4 and 5 years old
After a quick treasure hunt and placing all animals in a basket ask your child to draw their favourite animal and write its names. Why is this their favourite animal? Have a conversation with your child and see where it leads.
Moreover, there are few pink serie phonetic words in the book that your child can read and write all on their own:
Sun
Web
Pig
Mud
Dog
Cat
Nap
And from the blue serie your child can try to write the following phonetic words:
Wind
Farm
Yard
Jump
Roll
Swim

All these pairing activities are done to build a child observation and thinking skills.
They support language development and encourage finding similarities and differences, match sort objects in the correct category.

Share your child’s play and let us know which book would you like to listen to next.
